Unfortunately, information about the sponsoring organization or individual is not always presented clearly. In the absence of such a page, the Web site address URL can offer some clues. Locating and reviewing the site's advertising policy may help determine the role of advertiser influence in content. Site sponsors should indicate that they do not allow advertisers to influence the site's contents.
Unfortunately, this is not the standard. For some commercial sites, the entire business model revolves around offering advertiser-driven content disguised as editorial copy. As low-cost and low-tech ways to build Web sites become more available, sites are increasingly sponsored by individuals.

These sites may or may not offer excellent information and advice. Individuals who reveal their identity, offer credentials, and provide a means of contacting them may be more trustworthy than those who do not. When authors present factual information, they should provide sources and note when the page or information was last updated.
Simply citing an expert such as a doctor is not adequate evidence that the information is factual or reliable. Sites may require users to register, providing personal information in order to access interactive or customized features.

The Internet may play a role in enabling formula companies to access the personal information of an increasing proportion of expectant mothers Walker, As direct marketing practices become increasingly prevalent and sophisticated, childbirth educators may wish to address with students the potential detrimental impact of such marketing on breastfeeding outcomes and encourage women to guard their personal information online.
Aside from determining the reliability and accuracy of information on the Internet, women should be encouraged to notice their emotional and intellectual responses to what they find online. Childbirth educators should guide women to ignore or reject content that increases their anxiety, decreases their confidence, or contradicts common sense.
Alternatively, women may choose to bring that content to the attention of the childbirth educator, a care provider, or another professional and ask for help sorting through the confusion or anxiety the content causes.
Cleverly engaging, rather than ignoring, women's interest in and use of the Internet may help reinforce content covered in childbirth education classes. Outside of class, educators can e-mail class members, offering links to high-quality sites or forwarding, with commentary, items of interest such as a recent posting on the Giving Birth With Confidence Blog see Box 1 or an empowering birth story.
As discussed previously, current Internet trends have increased the ability of those without information-technology expertise to contribute content to the Web. Some examples include writing book and product reviews on sites such as Amazon. After a childbirth educator is familiar with the online environment, she may want to create her own blog or establish a personal page on social networking sites such as MySpace. Internet technology is rapidly changing, and health-care applications are just beginning to be realized.
The community aspects of the Internet are likely to continue to expand, representing a rich source of support for expectant and new parents. The increased availability of high-speed Internet access and the decreasing cost of data storage are likely to further enable multimedia, content-sharing applications such as digital photo and video sites.
The power of the Internet to put control of health care in the hands of consumers is just beginning to take shape and is likely to evolve quickly over the next several years.
For example, a movement is afoot to establish Web-based, consumer-controlled, electronic health records, intended to increase patient safety for people with multiple medical conditions, specialist providers, and prescription medications Lohr, Consumers may some day be able to have a personal health page where they can receive customized health advice, order refills of prescriptions, access support networks, and keep up-to-date on health news all from one portal.
Consumers may also soon be able to gain greater access to information about health-care providers and facilities.

Expectant parents can access the feedback, as well as facility-level statistics such as intervention rates, in order to decide where and with whom to give birth. A pilot phase of the project is underway in New York City, with plans for national expansion in Internet use among pregnant women is common and frequent, while attendance at childbirth education classes is apparently on the decline. Childbirth educators need not view the Internet as competition, despite its potential use for information and community-building, which were once squarely in the realm of the childbirth education classroom.
Childbirth educators can help provide needed context for information found online, as well as debunk erroneous or misleading claims. Finally, childbirth educators can steer women to high-quality, evidence-based sources by offering well-informed site recommendations as well as guidelines for evaluating what women find on their own. P, Applebaum S. Listening to mothers II: Report of the second national U. P, Applebaum S, Risher P. I would never consider a physical relationship right now, as i said earlier, because it is home to my baby now. I guess maybe something like this could be mind blowing to you, because you have no idea what it is like to be in our situations, so you dont know what you would do. Being financially and emotionally reliant on yourself alone, no one else. Not having anyone to talk to about what your experiencing.
Going to Lamaze, by yourself. Buying and reading Single Parenting books because your so scared to death of how your going to take care of this precious little being thats on the way. I get enough of your type of griping comments or nasty looks from people when they ask about my husband, and the answer is that I dont have one. Take your judgement somewhere else, it's not wanted here.
I understand, its hard to bring up the subject. When BD and I broke up we didn't know we were pregnat. But either way the relationship was not going to work. After that I started to see a guy I consider a close friend and who I had a "fling" with before getting with the BD.
I was nervous to tell him and did wait because I didn't know how to bring it up. I just blurted it out!! Hardly the way I imagined it going but I just couldn't hold it in anymore.
His reaction was so sweet! Totally accepting! He asked why I didn't tell him sooner and I told him I thought maybe he would be mad.
Then he said the sweetest thing "How could I be mad? That would be the most selfish thing of me. I'm excited! Just tell him. If hes not happy then maybe he didn't care for you that much in the first place. Good luck!! I was dating when i was pregnant with my son who is from a donor.
Nothing wrong with dating! It is just that you are extra vulnerable now you're pregnant and you're probably not really opening up to anyone. We grew into loving each other and became a couple. He was there when i gave birth to my son. We live together now since the summer and my son calls him daddy. I'm pregnant with my second child now from the same donor because my boyfriend had a vasectomy and we are so happy together! He is not the type i usually fall for not in looks and education and more but he is the best guy i ever came across.
Open your eyes a little wider and consider nice guys that may not seem your type and you might be surprised. If it bothers you so much stay the hell off the single mothers board. WTF is it to you? You should tell him. You will have to in a few weeks anyways because you will start to show.
If he doesn't stick around then you wouldn't want him to be in your child's life anyways. Any person who sees a child as baggage is the type of person you see on the news who beat and abused their step children. I dated a guy while I was pregnant and he knew and he never even thought twice about it.
He never got turned off by my changing body and was really a blessing. Good luck and remember your son or daughter is a blessing to be rejoicing about and if he can't accept that then he is not worth your time. Oh and now is the time to enjoy being pregnant, you only get to be pregnant so many times in your life so don't ruin it by stressing over something you don't need to be stressed over.
I'm actually married but I just wanted to say that I admire you ladies for being strong independent women!! I have family that are single moms and I look up to them a lot!! And don't worry about all the negative comments! Do what makes you happy, it's not like you're looking for a new baby daddy lol.
Stmitchell8, I think you just said all that to stir up shi t. Why don't you go back under the bridge you creeped out from underneath and shut the hell up you troll. I'm a married mom too but I wanted to commend all you single moms for your bravery.
I can't imagine going through what you all are. If ya'll weren't pregnant, I'd like to buy you guys a drink. To the op, I'd go on a date, see if that spark was there, and if so I'd tell him for sure. If there wasnt a spark, then you don't have to worry about that awkward moment. Then again, there is something to be said for being honest from the get go.
It could go either way! Good luck, hon. People like that have nothing better to do with their lives. Oh PS Hubba hubba!!!
They're strong, passionate, good men and let's be honest Who doesn't love a marine's tight ass in that uniform?! I live in Hawaii.
